Modi government takes action against illegal Chinese apps. 138 betting apps and 94 loan apps have been banned in India by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting based on a report by the Union Home Ministry. The action was taken under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act, citing threats to India’s sovereignty and integrity.

Earlier, the United States had announced a ban on 59 Chinese companies that work closely with the Chinese government citing security issues. India also banned Chinese apps after the border standoff. 220 apps have been banned in India.

Even for a small amount of loan, citizens had to endure constant abuse from various mobile apps. Complaints were widespread after this. Threats using morphed images have also been made against the people of the country by such apps.

States including Telangana, Odisha and Uttar Pradesh have expressed concerns to the Central Intelligence Agency about such apps. Following this, the Union Home Ministry started monitoring 28 Chinese-centric loan apps. 94 apps working like this were working with e-store and others were working with third party apps.
